-
The establishment of an Issue Contributing Area for nitrate for the two existing wells of the Village of
Tweed’s drinking water system within the Municipality of Tweed in the County of Hastings
-
Two agricultural-related policies have been revised to include additional measures within the policy text to address the rising nitrate levels.
A set of 21 policies addressing land uses (waste disposal, sewage works, agriculture) that could be contributing to increased nitrate levels
have also been updated to ensure they also apply to the new nitrate Issue Contributing Area.
-
Upper Thames River Conservation Area
-
Minor revisions were made to several water quality policies to remove reference to significant groundwater recharge areas to align with the updates to the assessment reports.
-
Revisions were made to six policies to reflect the updated risk assessments for the handling and storage of fuel that identified additional areas where these activities pose a significant risk.
While the policy text of the six fuel policies is not changing, these policies would apply to these additional areas,
namely of the areas closest to a surface water intake, and in areas where modeling has demonstrated that a fuel spill could contaminate the source of drinking water for a specific intake.
-
Revisions were made to two policies to reflect that liquid hydrocarbon pipelines are a prescribed drinking water threat activity (and no longer considered a local threat)
and would therefore apply to areas where hydrocarbon pipelines pose a significant risk.
-
Two new policies were written to prohibit the application of agricultural source material within the most protective zone around wellheads,
as well as to prohibit the generation of agricultural source material from livestock within the most protective zones around the wellhead for
the St. Marys drinking water system (Town of St. Marys).
-
Revisions were made to five agricultural policies to address policy implementation challenges and to improve clarity.
Moreover, the revised policy text removes the erroneous reference to the nutrient management plan (NMP) as an instrument that is
issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) as NMPs are created and approved by the agricultural operator rather than OMAFRA.
-
Removal of the nitrate water quality monitoring policy for the Wallaceburg drinking water system to reflect that nitrate is no longer an issue of concern at this system.
