BOB LAKE CONSERVATION RESERVE
ID: CR44
Area Name: BOB LAKE CONSERVATION RESERVE
Designation: Conservation Reserve
District(s):
North Bay
Park Zone(s): Northeast
Area (hectares): 2657
Date Policy Report Last Updated: December 01, 2012
The Bob Lake Conservation Reserve is located southwest of the town of Latchford within the Lady Evelyn River/Temagami River watershed. The values and uses within the conservation reserve include the scenic old growth and young pine forests ecosystems, warm water fisheries, and the scenic rugged terrain dominated by low cliffs, rock knobs and ridges, and boulder beach shorelines. The conservation reserve also protects a relatively high use canoe route providing an alternative connection to Diamond, Wakimika, and Obabika lakes, and an alternate connection to the Obabika Old Growth area from Diamond Lake.
Bob Lake was regulated as a conservation reserve on April 6, 2001.
The Bob Lake Conservation Reserve also contains lake(s) designated for lake trout management. For a current list of designated lakes associated with this area, refer to the Inland Ontario Lakes Designated for Lake Trout Management (2006) accessible in the Source of Direction portion of this policy report.
The intent of the Bob Lake Conservation Reserve is to provide backcountry recreation travel routes between Lake Temagami, Diamond, and Obabika Lakes where resource extraction activities do not occur. Land use concerns include the road crossings of portages and the use of portages as ATV trails.
The management area objectives are to permit access, minimize road crossings in the management area, and to rehabilitate the viewscape in the east portion of the management area where harvesting has occurred.
The land use strategies are to plan access to minimize land use conflicts by using existing crossings. A strategy was developed to prohibit further use of existing portage trails by ATVs within this management area as part of the Crown Land Recreation Plan Temagami Integrated Planning process.
Those uses and management activities not listed in the following table are governed by existing conservation reserve policy, the Temagami Land Use Plan (1997), the Crown Land Recreation Plan Temagami Integrated Planning (2007), and the Temagami Integrated Planning Resource Management Plan (2007).
Any new uses, and commercial activities associated with conservation reserves, will be considered on a case-by-case basis and will be required to pass a test of compatibility to be acceptable. Compatibility is normally determined through a planning process.
The following tables aim to present current information. However, with the passage of new legislation, updates to provincial policy, and the development of protected areas management direction documents, certain content elements may be out-of-date.
