Solace Provincial Park is a waterway class park that encompasses a chain of lakes lying between a series of parallel ridges. The topography and scenery is similar to that found in the adjacent Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park. A 21-kilometre canoe route within Solace Provincial Park consists solely of flat water lakes and rugged portages. The route connects with Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park to the east and Sturgeon River Provincial Park to the west as well as other waterways on Crown land.
Solace Provincial Park was regulated as a provincial park in 1988.
The park also contains lake(s) designated for lake trout management. For a current list of designated lakes associated with this area, refer to the Inland Ontario Lakes Designated for Lake Trout Management (2006) accessible in the Source of Direction portion of this policy report.
Solace Provincial Park protects natural heritage values in forested, wetland, and aquatic habitats dominated by a string of portage-connected lake trout and brook trout lakes in a roadless setting. The park will be managed for wilderness canoeing and camping opportunities that complement the adjacent wilderness and waterway parks.
Management of this provincial park is carried out in accordance with Ontario Provincial Parks: Planning and Management Policies (1992)) and the Temagami Area Park Management Plan (2007),
The permitted uses associated with provincial parks are found in approved management direction, which are available on the Ontario Parks website.
Note: MNR will consider the Land Use Intent and Management Direction outlined
in this policy report when reviewing applications for permitted activities that
require licences, leases, permits, or other forms of approval. The review of individual applications
involves the consideration of a variety of factors and requirements on a
site-specific basis in addition to land use policy.
